Materials
At this stage, our shutters are available in both aluminium-reinforced PVC and natural timber. For most homes, we suggest PVC as the better all-round choice. It is tough, durable, waterproof, easy to maintain and reinforced with an internal aluminium core to help prevent bowing and warping, making it particularly well suited to kitchens, bathrooms and busy homes with children or pets. PVC shutters are designed for interior use only and are not suitable for exterior installation outside the home.
For the order, timber shutters are a great option when you specifically want the beauty of a stained finish and visible natural timber grain. However, if you are choosing a painted white shutter, there is very little visual difference between timber and a high-quality PVC shutter once installed, so PVC generally makes more sense due to its superior moisture resistance, durability, stability and ease of maintenance.
As you work through the guide, unless the natural stained timber look and grain is an important part of your design, PVC is typically the more practical choice.

Colours
Shutters are usually selected to coordinate with walls, architraves and other permanent trim. Whites and off-whites can change noticeably under different lighting, so compare a physical sample beside the actual window before placing the order.
View the sample in daylight and again under your normal evening lighting. This gives you a more reliable impression than choosing from a screen alone.

Features
Plantation shutters combine hinged panels with adjustable louvres. This lets you vary privacy, light and airflow without raising or lowering the whole window covering.
- Custom-sized panels made for your window dimensions.
- Adjustable louvres for flexible light and privacy control.
- Multiple panel configurations for wider openings.
- Inside- and outside-mount frame options.
- Designed for straightforward DIY measuring and installation.

Frames
The correct frame depends on your window type, recess depth, architrave, sill and any handles or other obstructions. Inside-mount frames sit within the recess, while outside-mount frames sit on the face of the wall or architrave.
Select your frame before taking final order measurements because the mounting method changes where and how you measure.
