What to compare

For the order, avoid judging plantation shutters by country of manufacture alone. Compare the material specification, internal reinforcement, finish consistency, hardware, frame system, manufacturing tolerances, quality control, warranty and price.

Price is one of the biggest advantages of imported shutters. A high-volume specialist factory can spread tooling, machinery, labour and overhead across an enormous production volume, while sourcing directly from the manufacturer removes additional wholesaler and distributor margins.

Manufacturing scale

For this step, our manufacturing partner supplies a global market and produces hundreds of thousands of shutters each year for customers across major markets including the US, UK and Europe.

That scale brings advantages that are difficult for a small local factory to reproduce. Dedicated machinery, established production lines, bulk purchasing and highly repeatable manufacturing processes allow a specialist factory to produce shutters efficiently and consistently.

Large-scale manufacture is therefore not necessarily a compromise. In many cases, it is one of the reasons an imported shutter can combine a high specification with a much lower price.

Better value for money

As you work through the guide, a lower imported price does not automatically mean a lower-quality shutter. Much of the price difference comes from economies of scale, lower manufacturing costs and a more efficient supply chain.

By buying directly from a specialist manufacturer and using a DIY measuring and installation model, unnecessary layers of cost are removed. When you compare shutters like for like, this means you can get a high-quality, made-to-measure shutter for considerably less than an equivalent product manufactured locally.

Quality matters more than where it is made

At this stage, “Locally made” does not automatically mean better quality, just as “imported” does not mean inferior quality. What matters is the material, engineering, manufacturing consistency, quality control and warranty behind the finished shutter.

For the order, our shutters are produced to a defined specification and backed by a 15-year warranty. For our PVC range, the shutter uses a waterproof PVC construction with internal aluminium reinforcement to add strength and help prevent bowing. PVC shutters are designed for interior use only and are not suitable for exterior installation outside the home.
