Outside L-Frame: Face-Fit Guide

An outside L-frame is the frame used when plantation shutters are face fitted to the wall or architrave rather than positioned inside the window recess.

What is an L-frame?

An L-frame has a simple L-shaped profile. The outside-mount version is designed to carry the shutter in front of the window opening, so it is different from the L-frame used for an inside recess fit.

What is an outside mount L-frame?

The frame fixes to the flat front surface around the window. This makes it an excellent alternative where the recess is too shallow, where an inward-opening window would interfere with the shutter, or where handles and winders occupy too much recess depth.

Because it sits in front of the opening, an outside-mounted shutter projects approx 65mm further into the room than an inside mount.

How does an outside L-frame mount to my window?

At this stage, the frame is secured directly to a flat section of architrave or to the wall face around a square-set opening. Check the minimum 38mm of flat fixing surface shown in our current frame diagram before placing the order.

Decorative architraves can still work if they contain a sufficiently flat band for fixing.

If you are deciding between an inside and outside mount, check the recess depth and all obstructions first. An outside mount is often the cleanest solution when an inside fit would compromise window operation, or an iternal shutter simply cannot fit.
