Why Decorative Architraves Are Different

A decorative architrave can include grooves, curves, raised details or stepped surfaces. If the outer edge does not provide a clear flat face for the outside-mount frame, you cannot simply use the outermost edge as your measuring point. Use that result for this step.

If your decorative architrave does have a continuous flat outer edge suitable for the shutter frame, take it in the same way as a standard architrave. The special method below is for decorative profiles where the outer edge is not a suitable flat mounting surface. Use that result for this step.

Step 1: Locate the Flat Mounting Surface

At this point in the shutter measure, at this stage, find a continuous flat section of the decorative architrave that is greater than 38mm wide . This may be on the inner, middle or outer portion of the profile. This is the surface your outside-mount frame will sit against. Use that result for this step.

Use the same selected mounting plane around the opening. Do not run the tape from a groove, rounded edge, decorative peak or sloping face. Use that result for this step.

Step 2: Take the Measurements

• Take the width from the edge of the selected flat surface to the corresponding edge on the opposite side. Take three readings. Use that result for this step.
• Take the height from the edge of the selected flat surface to the corresponding edge on the opposite side. Take three readings.
• Use the smallest width and smallest height.

For this shutter measurement, for the order, keep all readings on the same chosen flat plane. If the profile changes around the window, the available flat area is not greater than 38mm, or you are unsure which surface to use, send us clear photos before placing the order.
