Plantation Shutters

Before Installation: Preparing Your Windows

A little preparation makes shutter installation faster and reduces the chance of damaging the shutter or surrounding finishes. Use that result for this step.

In this article

Clear the work area

Move furniture, curtains, blinds and decorative objects away from the window. Give yourself enough floor space to assemble the frame without stepping over components. Use that result for this step.

Remove conflicting window coverings

Take down any blind brackets, curtain hardware or other fittings that occupy the shutter mounting area unless they are intended to remain. Use that result for this step.

Clean the fixing surfaces

Remove loose dust and debris from the recess, architrave or wall face. Check that paint, plaster and trim are sound enough to accept fixings. Use that result for this step.

Check the substrate

Work out whether you are fixing into timber, plasterboard, masonry or another material and have the correct fixings ready. Use that result for this step.

Match components to windows

Keep each frame and panel set with its window label. Do not mix panels from different openings even if the sizes look similar. Use that result for this step.
